"Transformational Learning is about change, dramatic, fundamental change in the way we see ourselves and the world in which we live". Merriam, 2007

Transformational learning is learning that changes not only what we know, but also how we know what we know, and even who we are (Kevin Fahey)

While most schools recognize the need for change, not all change is created equal.

Traditional change - get better at doing what is being done to improve results on outcomes -- effectively maintaining the status quo [improve current practices] parallel to instrumental
Transitional change - get better at doing what is being done and do better things to improve access to outcomes for more students [expand who is included in the outcomes] -- with tangential impact on the status quo [improve outcomes]
Transformational change - get better at doing better things and change beliefs, mindsets to expand commitment to accomplishment of outcomes for all students may change what outcomes are valued -- disrupting the status quo [change outcomes]

QED’s Transformational Change Model looks at 22 indicators of learning environments across these three different strata of change. [phases? Modes?]

Privileged position to say you can have any kind of school you want.
We’re doing this because we think schools need transformational change.
What’s the problem that has to be solved? Each type of school (tradi, transi, transfo) solves different problems. Can’t get schools where every kid gets what they need without transformational.
